I have a 13" Apple MacBook Pro and the Logitech Z623 speakers. I would like to know if my setup would benefit from an USB DAC? I have my eye on the Audioquest DragonFly v1.2.

Apple products usually come with decent audio hardware, but something aftermarket might improve audio quality.

I would suggest upgrading your speakers before adding a DAC. I don't know what your budget, and space constraints are, but for not too much money you can build a nice computer audio system around speakers such as the Pioneer SP-BS22LR. They are much more resolving than your Logitechs, and give you the flexibility of using many different amps, etc...

What dac / amp you recommend pairing with the SP-BS22?

That depends on your taste, and budget. I've found sonic bliss combining a Sure TPA 3116 amp with a Little Bear P8 tube preamp. This combination has great synergy with the pioneer speakers. The amp has been great in every way, and the preamp has been great sounding, but its reliability has been a bit sketchy. I need to enlist the help of a friend who knows how to solder. The Sure amp requires some light DIY work, but I got it working, and am new to the DIY arena. My dream computer audio system would be a Schiit Bifrost DAC, a Schiit Valhalla2 preamp, and the TPA3116 amp.

Of course, there are many other ways to do this, but that's what I would do.
