I was going to suggest the HD650 cable, but I haven't actually tried one myself, yet. I have a couple on order, though. Quite cheap from Sennheiser-USA direct - only $11.75 ea - I ordered two at that price and the shipping was still only $5. That's much cheaper than the guy on ebay that sells them.

Zigis, any idea where to find HD500 headphones? That is a cool mod I would like to try.

tomb, I will do just that. I intend on ordering HD600 grills and if I can't find a Cardas cable by that time, I will order a HD650 cable.

tf1216, I made this modifications on my HD580.
I cover few holes with insulating tape, as described in link about HD500, construction both phones is similar, this mod improve midbass.

I don't do mod C, cutting grills, only cover holes.

You can change sound with more or less holes covering, and if you don't like this, you can remove tape easy.
