Hello all,

Ever since I got my WOO WA6 on high impedance setting (100 - 600 ohm) I have a clear low hum through my Beyers T1 v2. I tried rolling tubes and rectifier, I even got a new amplifier under guarantee, but nothing seems to help. The only solution is to switch the amp to low impedance setting (10-99 ohms), then the hum is as good as none existent.

Is this normal for this amp, or is the combi Beyer T1 - Woo WA6 just not a great one?

Looking forward to your experiences!

I have the Woo WA6 first generation and use Beyer DT-1770 Pro (among other hp). Your combination should be fine. Because tube rolling has no effect and because the low frequency hum is almost nonexistent at the low impedance setting, I suspect an issue with the output transformer. It may not be fully secured (grounded?). Call (e-mail) Mike Liang at Woo Audio.

Hi Jonathan, thank you. I've been corresponding with Mike a lot to solve the issue. It came to the point that they replaced mine with a new device. Strange thing is, that before the Woo I had a Schitt Walhalla 2, and had no hum complaints whatsoever. So I doubt it's a ground issue. I do start to think that in my case OTL might be the way to go.

But I do find it interesting that you don't experience hum, so it might have to do with my electrical system in house after all...

I might add that my WA6 and all other components are connected to a Furman Elite 15-I power conditioner. Some form of power filtering may be beneficial to your system. As an OTL aside, I do own the Woo WA3 (discontinued 😔)…tremendous with high impedance hp (DT1770, Senn HD600, ZMF Auteur) and 12AT7 tubes on adapters!!!
