Has anyone used these connectors? Comments? Issues with connecting the ground lead?

I've used them, and they are quite nice. The only thing I would say about them is make sure you have a higher wattage soldering iron around...in my experience, it takes at least 40W to 50W to get even a decent solder connection to them.

As I suspected... where (how) did you solder the ground lead?

Any place on the back 'rings' for lack of a better term. I would hold the soldering gun against the jack for a bit to heat it up, then attempt to apply some solder. You can tell right away if it's taking or not. In fact, if it doesn't solder properly, you can easily scratch the solder right off with your finger nail.
