I have an Audigy2 ZS in my notebook and running winamp with out_asio.dll resampled to 48kHz and use the optical output to feed an Entech 203.2 DAC. I noticed that I can use the windows master volume control to adjust the volume of my DAC's output... how does that work? Does that mean that I'm not bypassing the KMixer after all? Please help!

Hmm... does that volume adjust have something to do w/ audio stream?

IIRC, master volume
- adjusts the card HW directly
- can be disabled by removing the "Mixer Device"

If you hear audio even the "Wave" source (in CT Mixer) is muted (and the volume slider in Winamp has no affect), then everything should work as expected.

Thanks jiitee, I do hear audio when Wave is muted and slider in winamp has no effect. So how does the volume on SPDIF get adjusted exactly? I thought it was just zeros and ones... maybe some zeros and ones are used to indicate volume? This is actually a good way to lower the line-out voltage on my Entech 203.2 since it's too hot (2.5Vrms) for most amps...

Just don't want to make more sonic compromises than necessary.

If you want to adjust the output level only, I suppose the best way is to use a plugin like

- Sonalkis FreeG (http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showp...52&postcount=1)
or
- some similiar type, native Winamp plug-in.

(See my sig for additional plug-ins needed for to get FreeG set up for Winamp).
