Why is iTunes so slow to react?

wow - suprised to see others with quick machines experiencing lag on itunes, i have a bit of a delay in switching playlists and live search etc, but i am using an imac G3 600Mhz. but its totally usable, and my library is large, approx 600gb in wav and mp3

i guess the mac version must be way better optimized then!

wish itunes would support RIFF data!

Well, worth noting that iTunes were out long before iTunes Store opened...
Imo iTunes is a media player, which also happen to be a front-end for the iTunes Store.

ya..but its hardly used on Windows by me.

it is very slow, very laggy & sound quality is also questionable.

FooBar opens in 2 seconds.

Quality may be questionable on MS Windows. But on Mac OS X, just untick a couple of settings and its bit-perfect. Can't beat that for sound quality...
