Hehe, that's easy: Imagine a 2 kg plug attached to a 500 g device. Would need damn sticky feet...

Not what you wanted to hear? Ok, so it depends: What you want to avoid is resistance - so mass the electrons have to travel through should be avoided. Whereas parallel mass only reduces the resistance. Example: Plug A is 1 m long and 1 cm wide - bad idea! Plug B is 1 cm long and 1 m wide - good idea!

I'm not sure whether the statment that arised your question wasn't out of context, anyway. At least already I've heard of quite a few designers/manufacturers that believe in reducing component mass (especially in sources) to reduce unwanted storage of resonances - whereas I've never heard of connector mass reduction being a topic before...
