recently i bump across this copy of jimi hendrix' album

https://ssl.kundenserver.de/enter-th...ash%20Hits.jpg

is the sound quality any good or is the vintage vinyl replica label (not shown in the above image) just a marketing gimmick?
i did a bit of a research and generally i think the polydor releases are the favorites. thing is i dont know where to get those pressings, all experience hendrix releases here. even though that cd i posted above is glittered with all those exotic japanese words as well as the "vintage vinyl replica" label, i still doubt it because it is released by the notorious experience hendrix.

any info or experience on this? please share!

We are talking about CD releases here, right?

Well, yes, marketing gimmick as in card sleeve/repro of the original LP (so proper gatefold if the original was. Hendrix Smash Hits wasn't). I love em, others prefer jewel cases.

I have The Doors complete in vinyl replica series (and the other editions, but that's not germane here

) + Japanese Zappa Hot Rats & some other Mothers stuff vinyl repro. I've found them to be very good quality...

The Experience Hendrix releases, apart from some being WAY too loud, sound excellent to me. For examples - Band Of Gypsys, Isle Of Wight, Berkeley Community Centre, Electric Ladyland, Axis Bold As Love and Are You Experienced. First Rays Of The New Rising Sun should be remastered at a less compressed level. The Steve Hoffman forum has extensive discussions on Hendrix releases.

The original non-remastered Reprise CD releases are a safe bet as mentioned for the core 3 studio albums, but the EH CDs, although loud, still sound very good, and are easily available. Band Of Gypsys is best represented by the EH version. I heard the 2 West German Polydor and the original US Capitol CD versions and they sounded too far removed from the original master tape.
