I like to watch a movie at night in the bed. I know most of You do too.

I like big headphones, but when I wear my Philips (looks a bit like K701) the pillow presses the headphone ahead a bit. Not so disturbing but i want to include this issue in my new headphone consideration.

So, which is more comfortible?

K701
or
HD595
HD650 (i think they have the same design)
or
Dt880 (It's hard to get here)
or
else?

K701 = no.

HD595 = maybe.

HD650 (not the same design as HD595) = maybe.

DT880 = no.

DT250 = yes.

My pillow lying headphone of choice is AT ATH-A900LTD. The build of the other AT ATH-A headphones are the same so I would also recommend them. Of course, I am assuming that you are lying on your back on not on your side. They AT ATHs are so big and comfy they are like an extension of your pillow. Plus they don't clamp as much as the others you mention.

Definitely a no for K701 and HD650. They clamp too much to be comfortable while lying on a pillow.

You could also try Grado's since they are smaller but most people think they are horribly uncomfortable.

K701 has huge earcups and causes a pillow problem

Grado's have a smaller earcup but still have some interference with a pillow

PX100 are small enough not to interfere, but then they do not sound as good.

I'd suggest ya go small if you can find acceptable sound and comfort.

I use my DT770s from time to time in bed. However, it really depends on the type of pillow you are using. If its a kind where your head just sinks right in, it may be a little difficult to use full size cans.

I am in a half sit pose. So there is a pillow behind my back and supporting my head by my neck, so I can still watch the screen.

Actually I can lie on my side with my Philips, or... lie on the headphones, because the earpads are holding my head (still not touching my ear). (and I don't care of these phones that much) and it is almost acceptable. Almost. Mostly not.

The main problem is that "double bridge" over my head.

So I assume K701 is totally out of question.
I have this modell (SBC HP840):

I know, I only do it when I'm tired to be on my back. I don't want to lie on anything.

I often use IEM for this but sometimes my ears need to rest.

You need something small to be comfortable when laying the side of your head on a pillow, even if you prefer large headphones. I suggest Westone UM-2 in IEM or a good ear bud if you can't stand IEMs. I use a pair of Yuin PK2s when listening to music in bed.

What about custom IEMs?

I have Senn HD-595's, HD-280's, Grado SR80's (just got them, haven't tried them in bed yet) and Koss PortaPro's.

Although the 595's are leagues better in SQ than the PortaPro's, I prefer the PortaPro's for watching movies in bed. They work really well for movies, where the lost detail isn't missed, and that great bass kick is appreciated.

For comfort lying on a pillow, without hesitation most of IEM which don't have the wires running over the ear.
Of the circumaurals you mention, the oval shaped ones like HD-6xx, 580 etc. Ultrasones do OK. AKGs not much, but good enough, it depends on your head shape and how tolerant you are to having the can pushed a bit forward.

Small over the ear like Portapros are OK too.

Rgrds.

hmmm, how about a slightly different approach . . . . a custom pillow

something to give the necessary support & comfort without interfering with the ear cups?

IEMs: I have a pair Jays q-Jays and i love them :-)

I want to upgrade from the philisp and I know I want to watch some movies with them in the bed, this is why I started this thread to find out which would be good but it's not the only use of the headphones. If I upgrade I can only buy one.
