After a couple of months lurking, reading and (occasionally) posting I've bought myself a few pairs of entry level cheapie headphones (PX200s, MS450s and HD437s- I get most of my stuff from JB Hi-Fi which sells only Sony and Sennheiser) and now I'm thinking that I like this whole audiophile thing and would like to get into it some more but there's a problem- I'M IN AUSTRALIA (Melbourne to be exact)! I've always liked this country but where can I find some of the more obscure brands?? I don't want to buy online because most of them are from overseas as well (although I wouldn't mind if that was my only option) but do any other Australians have any suggestions where to buy good headphones and amps and stuff in Australia/Melbourne? Even online Australian sites would be good.

Oh yeah, as a sidenote- price wise would it be cheaper to order from the US and pay for shipping? I'd still want to find a local place to check stuff out but the exchange rate's going well at the moment so if it continues like that is that the best way??

Sorry for the long post.

Snufkin's shop. Though I've heard the notion that in half a year or so we'll be at US$0.80, so it might really be worth it to wait a little while and save some money...

You can probably listen to Grado's here:
http://www.audiophile.com.au/

I'm sure some high end audio stores would have all the Senns.

It's often best to buy from overseas although that depends on what you are after. Buying second hand seems to work quite well at head-fi, since we all look after our headphones. Otherwise www.headphones.com.au is a great place to start.

www.wickeddigital.com.au in Sydney sell Senns.

Avoid audiophile.com.au unless youre keen on getting completely ripped off on grado products. Like the others have said, get amps from headphones.com.au or order one from Headsave or any other independent makers.

Thanks for all the help. When I get to the buying really expensive headphones stage I'm going to have to go have a play at that audiophile store (and then order cheap from the US
