This is a quandary of mine that I would like help with resolving. I am in search of some answears about headphones and headphone amplifiers and things like that. Small things and big things. I need to know where to ask the questions so I don't post in the wrong forum. You know newbies, always clutering things up. So for example I have a question about the Etymotic ER-4P earbuds, actually the cords on them, where would I ask that question? I would think the headphone forum but the stated purpose of that forum is for discusion not any inquiry, so what about it. Is there a specific question forum or just make my best guess as to where it goes?

Welcome to Head-fi, sorry about your wallet.

For your Ety questions, I would ask in the headphone section.

For the amp section, I would ask in the amp section.

If you want to talk about winamp, foobar or other media players or sound cards, I would post in the computer as source forum.

If you want to talk about speakers, cables or tweaks, post in the cable forum.

If you want to talk about Ipods, Rio products, Iriver products, Creative Products or personal CD players, post in the portables section.

For things that aren't headphones or really music related (movies, computer games, rants, school), post in here.

Just don't post politics or other contreversial stuff in here.

If you want to buy or sell something, go to the for sale forums and post in the correct category forum. Do not use it to ask questions about the items though or make offers. Instead PM (private message) the buyer or seller. Definitely read the rules in there before you post.

I got a questioin about the for sale forum. Why is it that a person is not supposed to make offers? There are two ways that I read "make offers." The first was Want To By posts. WHich I think are "legal" and not what Meat01 ment. The second is posting how much you will pay for some already For Sale item. Like putting a post up that you would pay $155 for those on a thread where someone is selling something. If this second example is what Meat01 ment, then why can't you do that. Is it an ettiquet thing. Just not polite or cuases bidding wars or something?

I am not sure why there is no discussion in the for sale forum, but I would guess, Jude (the site's owner) does not want to waste bandwidth and page counts on people haggling or asking questions on the prices. In other for sale forums on the web, a lot of bandwidth is taken up by for sale forums. If you have a question about the item or want to make an offer, just type YGPM (you've got a PM or PM sent) and private message the person about the item. If you are interested in putting an ad to buy something, just start an ad saying WTB (wanted to buy) and describe what you want to buy. You don't have to put a price, people will PM you and offer you a price.

edit: you are allowed to make an offer of a lower price than someone is offering, but just make sure you do it via PM, rather than posting "I'll give you $50 for it." As far as ettiquite, under no circumstances are you allowed to make a comment in the forum about someone's price being too high or another place where you can buy that item for cheaper, but you are welcome to let them know via PM.

Thank you all for your help. I'll stick to YGPM or PM Sent and not sucking up Jude's bandwidth. Thanks again.
