Although I haven't built my META42 yet I don't forsee any problems with it. My soldering skills have been brushed up with my CMOY and I know what's going to go where. So I'm thinking what's next?

I was thinking about a DAC but I checked the library at Headwize and I don't see any tutorials there. How hard is it to build one?

There are lots of close-ups of portable DAC, so you can judge for yourself if you're capable of making it yourself.

Well I am pretty sure I can't make one from scratch by myself. I need some guidelines and circuit diagrams. Could you perhaps point me to some?

Instead of building a DAC, you could buy the ART DI/O and mod it. There’s a lot of information on mods for this DAC. The DAC is $122 from Full Compass.

If you wanted to build another amp I'd suggest building one of ppl's designs. As no PCB is availible you need to do the layout on protoboard; and ppl designs slightly complex amps

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out. The only thing I don't like is alot of the stuff is surface mount. Was thinking either this or a tube amp but I'm not too happy with the high voltages....

you could probably design ppl's portable amp (the one i've seen) around the META42 board layout. it's similar but has a lot more capacitance and a few more resistors.

Has anyone who still hangs around the DIY forums heard it yet? I'm looking to try Kevin Gilmore's amp since I already made the power supply for it a while ago, and I'd like to try ppl's, but ppl's default circuit requires two sets of voltages. Perhaps resistor values could be changed to allow for different voltages, as Kevin recommends in his dynamic amp article (http://headwize.powerpill.org/projec...lmore3_prj.htm) since Kevin's amp and ppl's amp use similar output stages.
