Hello,

It's the 4th of July here in the US (Independence Day) and I'm thinking that maybe I should use this opportunity to upgrade my sound card (there are many sales). I use my sound card with Beyerdynamic DT-990 Premium 250 Ohms headphones & KRK Rokit 10-3 monitors. I once tested a Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100 and I didn't reliably hear a difference with my Creative card, so maybe I'm at my hearing limit already. I do hear a big difference with different headphones though.
80% of usage is listening to music. 20% - games & movies.
Budget: $250, $300 maximum.

Any advice?

Which ones do you have? The 32,250, or 600ohm? You can tell on the connector it'll be stamped 32 or 600, if there's no stamp then it's the 250 ohm.

Having played in the computer source to headphone realm for the past 15 years, if it were me, I would be going the used market, either usb fed DAC + AMP or USB fed DAC/AMP route.
