Beck - Sea Change. The whole thing is incredibly sad and depressing, he wrote it after he broke up with a long time girlfriend. Just an excellent album. Lonesome Tears is one of my favorite songs.

Pretty much anything by Radiohead is very good as well.

Hurt by Johnny Cash. Amazing cover to the Nine Inch Nails original. It's just so...haunting and powerful.

Also, To Live is to Die by Metallica. Another powerful emotional song that has almost no lyrics whatsoever. It was written as a sort of heartfelt tribute to the late bassist Cliff Burton, and it really shows in their instrumentation and composition.

Would like to mention Space-Dye Vest by Dream Theater, just...another really good song in a sad way.

Actually, I have the original and three other versions.
That one just popped up near the top when I sorted by "sad".
