First timer with headphones, but have a really nice analog speaker rig.  I bought the STAX SR-007 Mk. 1's, low serial number, and the SRM-323s amp.  By many accounts, these headphones appear to be some of the best ever made.  I know the 323s isn't the most ideal amp, but many people seem to be happy with this setup.  I am completely underwhelmed. It does nothing to make me want to listen to music with this setup.  I have no other experience to compare it to other than my $150 Audio Technica noise cancelling headphones I use for traveling connected to my phone.  There isn't that much of a difference!

Turntable -> Shindo Aurieges-MM -> STAX 323s

Is having my Shindo preamp in the path really degrading the experience that much?  Does anyone else out there run another pre before their STAX amp?  I know the other STAX model amp has the bypass switch, which according to experts here, only max's out the volume and does nothing else.  I do the same thing manually when listening.

Ideas?
