Was Gifted a Behringer EP2000 PA amp -- Too Much Power for Wharfedale 10.1s?

Just a quick question for you guys. Last week I bought a set of 10.1s, figuring I'd sort out the issue of a proper amp later. Well, as luck (perhaps) would have it, today a musician friend of mine gifted me this (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/behringer-ep2000-europower-power-amp) power amp, which drives up to 2x 1,000 watts at 2 ohms, and 2x 750W at 4 ohms. It has an attenuator built in, but still I'm a bit hesitant to hook up my likely sensitive bookshelf monitors to it, just given its power output. Basically I'm wondering: any chance of damage in doing so?

That amp can probably output around 2x500W at 6 ohms. The 10.1's are rated for up to 100W, so yes, the amplifier has the capability of blowing your speakers. You may be fine if you are extremely careful with the volume knob, but I would personally rather err on the side of safety.

If you can set the gain low enough it should be fine, but note that if you already have the attenuator on the amp at the lowest level and you set teh source volume low but still it seems too loud, chances are you should just get another amp. Otherwise if it gets to a comfortable level easy enough (just avoid going louder if the main volume control is still a bit touchy for the entire gain structure) you can use this one for the time being but of course try to score a more proper amplifier as soon as possible.
