I assume you mean the 40gb iPod photo. Regular 40 gig iPods you can get for $100 less.

Yes. Trying to compare apples to apples as much as possible. The photo matches up with the Sony feature wise.

Thanks for all respone, SonicStage seems really bad but I have yet to hear anything negative about the player itself which for me is more important.

ipod has itunes which is great, fast and stable and integrates really well with the player.

But still, there is some features that the Vaio lacks like line out and accessories. That is obviously one of the strongest arguments for the iPod. It shoudn't be this hard to decide what player to buy. I guess neither one is a bad choise but it is hard to know which one is the best. I had an ipod for a while acouple of years ago, right after the second generation were relseased but to tell the truth I wasn't all that impressed with the audio quality. It could probably be because of the headphones but somehow I doubt it. I am not a big fan of much bass but the ipods bass response were weak to say the least. But when i listend to a ipod in a store recently (a new G4) my impressions were quite different, it sounded clear and a lot better then I remembered but the bass was still a bit weak and i thought i heard some disortion. (Their mini had a lot more disortion though.)

To sum up, ipod: good sound, lots of accessories, line out (with adapter), lossless audio, itunes.

vaio pocket: good sound quality, different, sony quality, better battery life.

By the way, I live in Sweden and here is the Vaio about $60 more expensive then an ordinary 40GB ipod and $50 cheaper then ipod photo.

The Sony comes with a dock which has line out. It also charges your player and connects to your CPU with a usb 2.0 connection.

The short coming is that you need the dock to do line out, but I am sure there are/ or will be adaptors to do the same for the Sony while on the go.
