Curious if this is a big no no? I tried with some cheap headphones and the cable get really stiff so big chance that would break... But the actual headphones at what point do they freeze to the point of doing damage?

Been any tests regarding this?

Being in Canada, I've had to use headphones outside in far below freezing temperatures. I've never found any effect on durability, but note that my experience is limited only to IEMs, earbuds and small supra-aural headphones like the PX100 and KSC-75. I wouldn't ever even consider taking full-sized headphones outside of my room let alone the house.
I have noticed the cables becoming stiffer and less pliable while cold, but it wasn't a large difference.

The cold does do something though...it changes the sound. Either that or it changes your physiological response enough to alter the sound experience.

I've taken out both my ES7 and SE530 over the last month or so here in Toronto where it's been quite cold (range of -5 to -15 Celsius). ES7 seem to perform well enough, and SE530's were under my tuque, so I doubt it was affected that much by the cold. Overall though I did not detect any change in the sound.
