While crusing around my local softmap, I found a new set of USB Audio cards that seem to have potential. I'm not how "new" they are, but I've not found anything on them here. So I figure I'd point them out, since it's possible that they could give the Creative Labs stuff a run for their money.
I'm sure everyone is familiar with Onkyo. They now have a sound card series called WAVIO. Check it out here: http://www.jp.onkyo.com/wavio/ WARNING Japanese page.
Take a look at SE-U55GX and SEU33GX. It the first difference is that the 55GX can handle analog plus Digital Ins and Outs while the 33GX is purely analog in and out. The 55GX also comes with a remote to control volume, audio programs etc. The 55GX rings in at about 18,800yen while the 33GX is 13,800yen.
Might be worth looking into. Though at the moment, I'm saving to upgrade my pitiful laptop now. Plus payday isn't for another month
