Both my birthday and HS graduation are coming up so I'm planning on gifting myself a new pair of headphones and both of these are super cheap right Amazon right now.

Urbanite XL: www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Urbanite-XL-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B00M3NZKA2
Urbanite: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M3NZYKI

I'm a young guy and I listen to urban music 90% of the time (Hip-Hop and all of its sub genres and R&B) and the rest of the time I'll listen to pop music and alternative rock so yes, bass is probably the most important thing for me.

I'm already set on these 2 options because of the price and because they're supposed to have a very good low frequencie response without completely neglecting the other frequencies. So I'm pretty much just trying to decide between getting the on ear version of the urbanites or the over ear version (Urbanite XL).

Is it worth paying the little extra money for the XL's?
Which one has a better bass?
Which one sounds better overall (including bass response) ?

(Again, pretty much all the music I listen to is bass-heavy so this is really important for me).

I'm only gonna use them in my house so I really don't care much about noise isolation, sound leaking or all that stuff, same for portability and durability, I won't be taking them anywhere.

I would get the over ear version. More comfort, bigger stage.

Holy cow, those are indeed cheap on Amazon right now! I was going to say get the V-Moda M100 instead for a basshead phone, but that was based on what I remember the prices of the Urbanites being a while back.  Sound quality wise, both the on-ear and over-ear Urbanites have their tradeoffs, but considering the price, there's not much to complain about; the on-ear version has smoother, more rolled off highs, but deeper extension in the bass, while the over-ear version has peaky, sparkly highs and more midbass boost. At these prices, I'd say get the XL, considering it's only a little more. Echoing the previous post, it will have better long term comfort and bigger sound stage.

Alright thank you very much for answering, do you think that the bass in the on ear version is considerably deeper than the XL's version?

But yea might as well get the XL for a better overall sound.

The XL's bass starts rolling off at about 60Hz, while the on ear's bass starts rolling off at about 25Hz, so while the difference is significant, odds are for most songs you won't notice the difference in bass extension since the rolled off bass is very deep bass rumble, especially since the XL has more midbass.
