i am torn between adding ppx3 to my Iron Dreamer modded emu1212m and going benchmark dac. all this talk about benchmark dac got me wondering, and IIRC it could be used as a headphone amp also, right? but is it good enough to match ppx3?

They sound different by nature. The answer is get both and return which you like least.
