Hey guys,

Love me Grado SR-60s at home and have a pair of Koss Porta Pros that I like using at the office, but they're starting to fall apart a bit.

I'd like something similarly balanced and comfortable to wear at the office — preferably something you can quickly take off or hang around your neck for a brief interruption. The Porta Pros don't look too 'engaged' if you know what I mean, I don't want people to feel they can't interrupt me…

And superficially, I'd like something a bit less 80s looking than the Porta Pros (they look so retro people think you're a right hipster ;) )

Any favorites under €/$100 I should check out?

Thanks!

For something small, light and comfortable, get the Sennheiser PX100II. I have the original PX100 and like it very much. I had the Portapro and Sportapro for many years. The Portapro sounds murky in comparison to the PX100. The PX100II is said to be slightly bassier than the original. I haven't heard the PX100II. In addition to being compact and foldable, the PX100II has a cord on just one side. The PX100 sounds warm like the Portapro, but has much more detail. The PX100II is around $60 in the US. A bit expensive for what it is, although many still love it. If you want to get something much less expensive, the JVC HAS140 is only around $10. The HAS140 has a brighter sound balance than the PX100 or Portapro. I use the HAS140 for the sound from my pc.

If your budget is $100 and you love your SR-60s, you might want to consider upgrading to SR-80e at home and move the SR-60s to the office. Just an idea :-)

That's not a bad idea actually :) Hmm tempting…

Ok, I'll give the PX100 II a try – ordered :)

If you like the Portapro, you will probably love the PX100II. When I bought the Portapro in the 90s I thought it was great until I got the PX100. The only thing I don't like about the PX100II is the price. I paid only $40 for the PX100. I guess having the cord on just one side though costs more to make than the PX100 which has the cord going in on both sides. For those who are on a tight budget, the JVC HAS140 is well worth the price. I guess I should have also mentioned the JVC HAS160 which I also have. The HAS160 is only around $12. I didn't mention the HAS160 initially, as it is closed. Even though it is closed, due to its small size it doesn't isolate that much. It is sturdier built than the HAS140 with a metal band in the headband, while the HAS140 headband is just plastic. The HAS160 has a warmer sound than the HAS140, and better bass. The only thing I don't like about the HAS160 is the earpads, which are plastic(fake leather) and start making my ears hot after a while.
