Current setup:

DAC: Apogee Mini DAC
Preamplifier and Headphone Amplifier: Ray Samuels B52
Headphones: HD650 balanced XLR from B52
Adam near field powered monitors and subwoofer
All connected via XLR cables
This has been my arrangement for greater than 10 years (other than the computer and change in tubes associated with the B52.)
All is sonically satisfying but I may be missing a substantial benefit since I don't have a frame of reference.
How much improvement can I expect from a DAC upgrade?
If so, would I benefit from a DAC with a headphone amplifier compared to the output from the B52?
Pleased with my current headphone and would rather focus on the DAC than a headphone upgrade, presently.
Would a DAC improvement also benefit the monitors/subwoofer system?
Considering spending less than $2500, but not firm at present.
I have been monitoring and researching multiple threads on Head-Fi to gain some insight into my question and would appreciate comments/advice.
