I just found a toslink cable in my messy cable drawer and decided to do some A/B listening with the Anedio D1 DAC between the toslink and coax cable.
The toslink cable looks like a cheap no-name one and it's connected to my Gigabyte X58A-UD7 motherboard, the coax cable is a Van den Hul "The Name" cable connected to my Essence ST soundcard. I A/B'ed by pressing the channel button on the remote control and the mouse button at the same time. I'm using Foobar2000 playing bit-perfect.
I tried some different songs I'm familiar with, and it turns out I'm quite certain I hear a difference. Toslink sounds a bit cleaner and clearer. The coax cable sounds a bit grainy in comparison. I'm quite sure I'm not imagining it, but who cares if it sounds better.

In any case I'll switch to toslink now.
