I need to replace a damaged tonearm on my SOTA Comet. What tonearm should I get? The Sumiko Bluepoint cartridge on the existing tonearm seems okay and I will tranfer it to the new arm. Can I install the tonearm myself or does it need to be done by SOTA? I do not know if there are any local stores that still service turntables.

Thanks,

Assuming the tonearm is a Rega RB250 or close relative, you won't really do much better than this at an affordable price and the deck probably won't be worth putting a more expensive arm on anyway.
The Rega RB250 can however be upgraded by companies like Origin Live http://www.tonearm.co.uk/tonearm.htm and Incognito and Michell http://www.michell-engineering.co.uk/tonearm.html sell a Counterweight upgrade called the "tecno weight" which is a good upgrade.
Depending on the extent of the damage to your arm it might be possible to fix it and upgrade it at the same time, if say the problem is with the wiring. If the fault is not easily rectified and you need a new arm the obvious choices are an OL1 or Michell tecnoarm.
