thats the question.

here's the thing, i recently found out from my friends at the local car audio store that Clarion (car audio company) is making a cable that plugs into the CeNet interface found on most Clarion cd players 2001+ and allows the cd player to control the ipod and charge it also!
i was thinking about getting that cable and an Ipod to use with my current Clarion cd player, because my cd player is a cd player only, no mp3.
however, i wanted to get sirius satelite, but i cant get both (part of new years resolution, no over spending).

which should i get? the ipod and use the stereo to control it/charge it, or buy a seperate stand alone sirius unit instead (my stereo is not sirius/xm compatible).

If this only for the car? If so it's tough (discovering new music thru Sirius or carrying around your collection on the iPod). If not, there's really not a usable portable solution so the iPod kinda wins there.

I'm really hoping the next generation of Sirius players leap forward, but who knows. The recent XM MyFi review here doesn't get the hopes up.

When I called Sirius about the misleading "lifetime" plan, the guy mentioned they may have some new stuff (from some hardware manufacturer) in January (supposedly he's played with prototypes but doesn't know a release date). And there's Macworld SF in three weeks, so possibly a new iPod/Mini/flash player. Maybe good to wait in both cases?

You'll get better sound out of the iPod, but if it's suppose to "be about the music", you're gonna get exposed to a lot more with sat radio.

I really want to get Sirius, but hoping for better (and less complicated and costly) hardware. Give me a small player with a jack on the receiver and I'm there.

I dunno, discovering music is so much fun for me. I would love to have the sirius for car use. Driving around.... listening to new music is so much better than listening to the same old stuff you have while studying, and other daily activities.

Gogo premium radio services.

it will be just for the car, thats why its hard.

i will definately wait for CES, thats when they are showing the ipod interface for the Clarion. hopefully they will show some new stuff from sirius, hardware wise. since i cant control sirius with my headunit, i would like a nice looking unit (i dont like that huge orange thngs they have).
ipod quality will definately sound better, so thats a plus.
but new music through sirius and those comedy stations are great to, argh, this sucks.
if i buy the ipod now, and then the sirius after jan 1 2005, i wont be breaking my new years resolution will i?

It's not New Years yet. Take advantage.

BTW, the Blaupunkt doesn't look bad at all. Better than my car stereo anyway.

Slick, I am facing a similar dilemma. I love the idea of a portable satellite radio such as the Delphi MyFi, but I also really want an iPod. I think in the end I'll go with the iPod, as the MyFi seems to be an underdeveloped product. I'll probably end up holding off for about a year, and hopefully there will be some newer, easier to use hardware for portable Sirius/XM. If I were you, I'd go for the iPod. The MyFi has an FM modulator, and I bet subsequent products will have one too (it provides good versatility but still sounds like crap). I would wait for satellite radio prices to come down. In the meantime, I'd go for the iPod setup.

Only rumors so far officially, but I've heard that Sirius and Apple have been talking to each other.

I would expect that if a Sirius solution for iPods did come out, there would be an add-on for the millions of existing iPod owners. So, I vote iPod too.

looks like ipod might be the winner, though i still have time to decide.
that blaupunkt unit does look nice, but i dont trust that brand, i have heard about there headunits and i dont think i want to bother much with that company.
overall, the sirius plug and play units are big and dont look good, and its hard to find a decent place in my interior to put the unit/cradle.
an ipod that plays sirius would be sweet, that would solve all my problems.
i'm going to wait for CES to get the official word on the ipod cable and if it works like they say, i think i'll go for it (sirius will have to wow me with something for me to pick them at this point).

I would much rather have Sirius, because they have everything. News Sports, Music. Much better i think.
