Here's a thread for Stax newbies to ask questions, and I hope Stax experts can kindly chime in on and answer. If enough good discussion happens I'll collect the best stuff into a Stax FAQ.

Why a special thread?

The existing Stax threads are too long and too full of expert discussion for a newbie to navigate, I've tried multiple times but it's difficult. Further it just aggravates the natives, rather than get our heads bit off better to have a special place that the old Staxers can ignore if they want, but I hope they won't.

What kind of questions?

Anything goes, even if it's been asked a million times feel free to ask it here. Also feel free to ask non newbie questions too.

Why, why, why??

Because I'm getting my first Stax on Monday and am having trouble getting any information on them. Never had any stats before though I've owned everything from horns to planers, and many different dynamic phones. Now I'm exclusively a can listening and am setting up for a high end system again.

OK then

First question: I've followed Gilmore's design since he first posted it on the internet. If I like what I hear next week I'm placing an order for the Blue Hawaii (more newbie questions on that later), but I've also designed and built SET's, OTL's and SS preamps, phono and amps, so am good with DIY. Does Kevin or anybody have any boards for the DIY community to source, or is the BH the only option (without going point to point or rolling your own PCB)?
