Hi, all.

I'm considering getting some sort of portable gizmo (rather, upgrading my *HOT* Rio 600 32MB), but I have a vast collection of digital music, in a variety of formats. I've got lots of ape, ape & cue/apl, flac, mp3, mp3 & cue, mpc, wav & cue, wav, and that's about that. No AAC.

My question: clearly I don't need to carry around lossless, so I'd need it downsampled into, say, vbr 192 or something of the sort (it really doesn't matter, so long as it's around 160CBR). Is there software that'll handle this? Does sortware these days come with the players, or do 3rd parties make software to transfer onto a portable...? I'm in the dark.

Thanks in advance, all,

alex

I recommend dbpoweramp... i use it and its pretty easy to use. Just hightlight all the files you want converted and right click on them and choose convert to. You can pretty much convert to any file format you want. I find this pretty easy but another choice would be using foobar but i'm not sure how to.

I second the recommendation. dbPowerAmp pretty much supports almost all major audio formats. Just make sure your download and install the codecs for all the different ausio formats you want to convert.

EAC (exact audio copy) or for simplicity CDex

Hmm... re-reading my post, I realize I was about as clear as mud.

I use dB all the time to convert songs, but I'm talking about downsampling on the fly (not making a more lossy copy, but instead just converting the file as it's copying over to the portable.

I know with my Rio, I can select, say, a 320CBR mp3 and say (in WMP) "copy it on on over, but downsample to 64kbps WHILE you're at it". Well, I don't actually talk to Windows, but y'all understand. Is there software that will do this with all types of formats?
