Ladies/Gents:

I am not knowledgable in electronics, and request some technical advise. My FiiO E5 is on its way. Rather than charging via USB, I was wondering if I could use my cell phone AC-DC charger.

Specifications are according:
Output DC 5V 1A

If I could also request an explanation, opposed to simply "yes" or "no".

Thanks in advance.

Well the normal USB current is 500mA, or .5 amps, so it might cause a problem.

Even if it works, remember that the fiio makes lots of nice staticy noises when you charge it.

I use my little USB charger which is 5.5V(max 1000mA, min 150mA)and it charges all my players and E5 just fine. It does have a smart charge sensor though. I think the only issue is overcharge like previously mentioned. Probably should get yourself a smart charging one since they only cost a few bucks. Mine was a free gift with something. A smart charger with trickle charge will charge more fully and can also help extend the life of the E5's battery a bit.

The E5 manual says the red light will glow until charged and then it turns off. I do not think there is any protection from overcharge though.

I have charged it with my Motorola issued charger many times. No problems so far.
