How important is the matching of the DAC to the Amp. I see a few people who buy their amps and DAC from the same company. Is this due to company loyalty or do companies gear DACs in a way that provides more quality when used with their product?

It is very important to have synergy. It is basically the difference between a system which you enjoy and one that you don't (of course there is a level of subjectivity here). It's not just the DAC and the Amp that should have synergy; It's the whole system source component, amp, headphones, and cables. It does not necessarily mean that your going to have to buy components from the same company though. Ultimately it is also a matter of making small changes and tweaking your system tuning it to something you enjoy listening to.

Can't see it as that important that you have to buy the DAC and amplifier from the same company.
But it just seem to work out that way.
Plus it should be a little cheaper (shipping wise) to order 2 parts from the same company, then ordering two separate parts from two separate companies.

Gear synergy it's crucial on this hobby.
I've experienced that some headphone amps require a proper dac to get the most out of them. Having a wrong Dac can lead to your amp/headphones sound lifeless, bright etc.
