Well I just bought the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 for $119 at best buy (Still sealed in the box), I have been eyeing this set for a long time, I saw the price, I had to go for it. I just started getting into the hi-fi thing recently, I recently bought a portable headphone amp and am really enjoying it. Anyway, Newegg reviewers love the Klipsch Promedia's.. But I did a search on head-fi and everyone isn't very into them it seems. I want to use the speakers for music and gaming, maybe some movies. At one time I was really into home studio recording and actually getting back into it, (I am a musician too), So for that I use a pair of Event studio monitors, they are great, But I recently sold my MOTU 828 soundcard for a downgrade which I will be doing soon. Anyway, it seems as if Event Monitors would be nice to use for playback, Although, the part where I have no subwoofer for them comes into play. The Event's are great for studio work, but for enjoying music, and gaming, There is not enough of that bass punch that a multimedia system comes with (like the Klipsch 2.1's I just bought).

So my question is, what should I do? Return the Klipsch? Keep them?.. I still need to get a new sound card (Thinking of an x-fi). Would it be possible to hook up an amp to the Klipsch?, Should I use my Event monitors with a compadable sub?.. I mean I really am stumped, I just want to enjoy my music, enjoy my gaming, and have a 2.1 setup.

Anyway, hey, thanks for reading, I really do appreciate it

If you have no use for them (or don't expect to use them often), return them. You choice.

Of course I have use for them, sorry I forgot to mention that my very old creative 5.1 set broke on me and that I was tired of the cheap quality anyway. So yes, I am in need of computer speakers for music and gaming

ps.. I suppose I could use my events for playback and the Klipsch's for gaming and bumping the tunes loudly?

My vote is - keep the Events and spend $288 for this sub, that is if you can expand your budget.

I'd rather have a nice 2.1 system rather than a not so nice 5.1 system. Ever see a 2.1 bathroom system?

...just my 2 penny advice.

I'd love to do that, I just wish I didn't have to buy an amp and sound card as well, Any chance of a cheaper sub?

I'm very reluctant to recommend the cheap $200 subs that you'll find at Circuit City for instance. They are a waste of money and don't sound good at all.

The Dayton sub is good along with this sub from HSU for around the same price. SVS also makes excellent subwoofers but they start out at $430 for the least expensive box subs.

It is well worth it to simply wait until you've saved enough money to buy a respectable sub, otherwise you probably won't be happy. My tip for you is to visit any mid/high-end audio shop in your area if possible and audition the best sub that they offer($2,000 + ??). This will give you a good understanding of what you should listen for and expect a sub to sound like.

The PM2.1 are great for computer speakers, especially with gaming and movies, but they're just that: computer speakers. They don't even hold a candle to a real speaker system, but it doesn't really bother me since I don't use them for music.

The answer is simple: if you like how they sound, keep them, otherwise take them back.

Pretty interesting, so do you use a subwoofer and/or an amp with those Event monitors of yours? If so, which ones? Also what soundcard are you running them on?
