I recently bought a pair of Mackie MR5MK2's and have them hooked up to my Fiio E7/E9 via RCA. Running at about 50% volume (controlled via foobar) for about 30-45 mins, the back of each monitor feels quite hot (the metal surface would be nearly too hot to touch. Although these things sound absolutely amazing compared to computer speakers, I was just wondering if it's normal for studio monitors to get quite hot (i'm told it's the built in amps inside each monitor actually heats up). This is my first pair of active speakers so I was just curious. I know passive speakers don't have amps in them therefore they never really get hot at all. I just wanted to confirm with you folks on here that active speakers getting hot is normal and I haven't picked up a defective pair (i have 30 days to exchange/return these locally)

Thanks in advance for the responses

I think it is a defect, but is quite common. Take a look at the reviews on Amazon.
