Hello all :]

I'm not exactly an audiophile, and im looking for some advice on buying relatively cheap stereo headphones solely for using on my computer. I've been talking to some guys smarter than me regarding headphones and audio in general and all of them have recommended me not to waste money on some expensive senn's like 595 because the computer can't process the quality of sound the headphones can achieve. perhaps in the future when i buy a better audio system/amp/sound card i shall be able to buy some ownage headphones, but now i'm looking for some mid-class stereo ones. sony or something, anything that gives most bang for up to 70 bucks :].

i'm using zalman 5.1 now, which from what i've heard from people who have some understanding in audio, are total and utter crap. guess i was just blinded with the marketing 5.1 trick :]. i'm primarily using headphones for listening to mp3 and fps gaming, meaning that sound positioning is quite important, but i'll primarily go for sound quality and "warmness" and a good bass instead of uber positioning.

so, please help me with your experience uberpros!

tnx:]

Do a search, lot of people on this forum have Sennheiser's PX200 and Koss Portapro, which I believe will still leave you with some changes.

Quality cans will faithfully reproduce signals with the least colourisation, so you will get to hear exactly how badly encoded your tracks are and how dreadful your sound card really is. So it may be a good idea to start from the souce first, then upgrade the cans and anythings else in between (e.g. dac, amp, cables...)

you should give the cheaper Panasonic headphones a listen, like the RP-HT355. IMO they are a great bang for the buck considering they're full sized closed headphones. they fetch around $30 dollars each.

with the rest of the money upgrade to a soundcard like the AV-710 for "future upgrades"

I think that the Sennheiser PX100 will fit well your expectation.
