Here is my problem with this diagnosis.  On my O2, only now after 4 years of use and only on the right side and only if I pull on one side of the cable does it drop in volume.  Let go... comes back.  If both stators need to work to move the diaphram how am I getting sound and if its the "electret effect" why is it only one side and only when one side of the cable is pulled?  To be clear, the cable is dotted, middle, clear.  I tug the clear one drop, tug the dotted keeps playing.  Thoughts?
 
If I'm wrong tell me but electrostatics works by moving a very thin very light diaphragm between a push/pull charge.  Even if the pull is missing, the push will keep happening, no?
