I just put together a headphone setup and everything sounds fine when I plug in my Grado 325. When I switched to my HP-2, things sound fine unless I either get up from my chair and take a couple of steps, or when I roll my office chair a few feet--the headphones start to have static crack sounds--just one or two cracks when I move.

I don't think it is a cable issue since if I sit still, and move/shake the cables vigorously, there is no static sound. As soon as I get up, or roll my chair a little, the crack comes back even if I make sure I don't move the cable. When I touch my amp I might get a little static spark but I am not sure if this is related. Again, none of this happens when I switch back to the 325s.

My CDP (Audio Analogue Paganini 192/24) and Graham Slee Solo with wallwart PSU are plugged into a cheapo powerbar. The two are connected with Cardas G Ref. The floor is fake wood laminate.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Am I ruining my beloved headphones?

Sure it's not your hair? I have Harry Potter like hair atm and it covers my ears. Headphones that clamp too much causes a slow crackling sound.

Most definitely not my hair (and I know what you mean). This a very clear distinct static crack. It is not crackling--like a string of noise, it is crack!...silence...crack again!....pause...crack! but ONLY if I walk or move the chair across the floor. This does not happen with the 325s which have similar build shape and same bowl pads...so it's not my hair.

I would strongly suggest (if you haven't already) that you use the grounding post on the back of the solo and connect it to the grounding post or casing of your speaker amp/cd player with some reasonable gauge wire.

I got static on my solo before I did this, just having interconnects attached was not enough, luckily for me, my audiolab has a grounding post for the phono stage.

I had been advised to ground the Solo but haven't done so yet--the amp is new to me. Thanks for confirming grounding is the problem here. I guess getting a static spark from touching the Solo should have been my first clue. There isn't a grounding post on my CD player...in any case I have been thinking of upgrading to the PSU1 anyways, so this would be a good reason to do so.
