In theory the sqeezebox could be the answer to computer soundcard issues. With no PLL and clean power to the oscillators this thing could have very low jitter, they claim 50ps. I know for a fact that soundcards have very high jitter, my EE friend measrures nanosecond level jitter.

Is sounds like you have to connect to a network. My issue is using a router is it slows down my internet. IS there a workaround?

What about building a regulated linear power supply for it, has this been done?

The squeezebox is a dedicated source component, although the solution to your question is somewhat technical. If you have an internet connection that is being made worse by using a router / switch, you could always get a second network card for your PC (or perhaps your cable / DSL modem has USB) to connect the internet connection to. This way your PC continues to have "straight through" access to the internet, and you can use the router / switch to connect the second network card to your squeezebox or just directly connect the 2nd NIC to the squeezebox.
Of course the router shouldn't be slowing down your connection. In fact modern routers do QoS (quality of service) which allows you to prioritize certain traffic. I am very sensitive to lag when playing games online and I have no issues now that I'm using QoS on my new router.
Hope that helps.
