Hello everyone.

I just wondering if anyone had tried the Elite pro version of this soundcard? How much does the external device help your sound improvement? Is it like a DAC or more like an AMP, or abit of both for an affordable price?

you should post this in the computer as source section of this forum as you'd get alot more help there.

The elite sounds superb.....It really does. If I still had a computer with an xfi I wouldn't be thinking of getting an amp for a while.

The elite box doesn't really work as a DAC as I think it has a headphone port amplifier in it (like the bay driver faceplate).

However, given a good layout of cards in the computer and x-fi music sounds just as good with almost all reasonably priced ($500 and less) headphones.
If you put your x-fi next to a GPU then yes quality might suffer, but if like me you install it as far away from everything as possible then box or no box it will be superb.

The box is more for ins and outs and flexibility and ease of use.

It might even be able to take digital inputs so yes, the elite box might be able to make the card work like a DAC+AMP device.
