Decent upper entry-level/lower middle-class linear tracker....

The original cartridges usually weren't that good in that class. Hence I'd rather recommend a new cartridge - if you can still find one, I'd recommend to try the AT316EP or the AT311EP. The exchange is easy, cause it uses T4P/P-Mount mounting...

However, whether the turntable is good enough, is really up to you. I'd say it's good enough for someone who wants a comfy, uncomplicated table to play back the occasional record in decent quality - but it's not the right table for someone who wants to dig deeply into vinyl and reach audiophile level quality. In addition, I'd recommend not to bother with it, if it's not in good cosmetic condition anymore, 'cause then it probably makes more sense to look for one of the better models out there that still can be had for a fairly low price on the used market (e.g. Dual CS5xx, 6xx - or a PS-X555ES or PS-X800, if you'd still like a Sony linear tracker, just a better one...).

Greetings from Munich!

thanks for the response, it is much appreciated. it's in beautiful shape. if I can find the cartridge at a half decent price I'll pick one up.
