I got the Sony E436F for Xmas, its easy and friendly to use however the volume level is very average.
Anyone know how to get into the "Test Mode" for this unit so I can jack the volume up?

Yes followed the process with the hold and option buttons, don't know what or where the "dynamic normalizer" is?

Should be inside Settings > Music Settings

Might not do much though. What headphones are you using?

There is only "Play Mode" and "Equalizer" in the music settings.
I'm using the headphones that came with it and have tried other sony sets I have and it makes no difference. The only way I could get the mp3's louder is to use an mp3 editor and amplify the song, but I really don't want to have to do this to all the songs I put on it plus it clips the signal and doesn't give me that much of an increase.

I didn't know that the E436 didn't have dynamic normaliser. Sorry about that. I've only listened to the E436 briefly at the local Sony, and they were definitely loud enough for me.

I hope you are not going deaf.

I could still here the train during some of the songs at full volume on the way to work this morning, even changed headsets durung the journey to see if it made a difference.
Anyway someone will post it somewhere eventually or I can try and smooth talk the sony service guy.

Cheers

If you are using the stock buds, then you will definitely be hearing the train. My suggestion is to invest in an in-ear headphone (canal phone). These will block out noise and you won't have to turn up the volume.

I listen to my Walkman at a comfortable level (15/30) with my Klipsch Customs while taking the Tube almost everyday. It doesn't annoy my fellow passengers and best of all, they can't annoy me.

hi, guys,

E436 volume max level only around 60-70% S or S series volume does. the company called Sony wont just give us all good things in 1 device. some take out Radio Fm, without bluetooth, some inferior SQ / EQ etc...

E series as barget walkman which Max volume lower then others but batterylife the longest, no dynamic normaliser, no VPT suround, no DSEE, plastic casing.

it is a fact that E436 max volume only 60-70% of S or A series..

Sony different model have different + and -

E436 no dynamic normalizer, VPT surround, DSEE. but E436 have longest batterylife !!

if i not mistaken, E436 max volume around 18-20/30 S series volume. the range of sound is acceptable but in crowed area the sound volume might not enough. furthermore bundled earbulb worst noise isolation..
