Which one would you get? Is the net MD technology really that great. I am sure the N707 is missing some features that the R909 has because of its relatively cheaper price. What about the recording capability of both players, which is better?

They both have ATRAC Type-R, so soundwise, they are pretty much the same. The R909 is has better build, uses the gumstick for longer recording times (and has no "bump" for the AA cell), the date/time stamp, plus a nicer display (and overall design). Overall, it is worth the extra money. My R909 is almost a year and a half old, and no troubles.

Having seen and used N1, R900, R505 and R707 for a short time, I think "pure value"-wise R505 is the best deal of them all. Especially if you want something to jog with a netMD function. However if you need to record with a mic for any reason, N505 can't do it. N707 is a solid recorder and you get pretty much all the features on R909 with that firmware hack along with the netMD function.(not sure if you get the lineout though) If you want all the bells and whistles like the cool backlit LCD pull&roll Sony remote(it's great, really) you gotta get 909. N707 and N505 look pretty nice on their own, but compared to the top-of-the-line R909 or R910, they look pretty cheap.

I love my N707, and use it for everything. Tough as nails, sounds good, attractive. NetMD is wonderful, bundled software sucks... terribly. You MUST get Realone player, which is a breeze to use, if you're going to get the 707. It's better, faster... trust me, go with NetMD.

answer: Sharp MD-DR7

reasons:
R909/R707 = 5mW+5mW@16 ohms
DR7 = 8mW+8mW (32 ohms) Auvi 1-bit Digital Amp

i just had to let that out since this is head-fi and it all comes down to SOUND (isn't it?) and matching for your valuable phones.
