Hello,
Revising my thoughts on the 7600 somewhat.
A great sounding radio is the Sony ICF-SW7600GR. After making some improvements:
1. Modifying the RF attenuator to work only for FM
2. Modifying the output coupling capacitors to be a matched pair of 220uf
3. Replacing the two FM IF filters with Murata 220khz GDT type
The radio sounds spectacular. RF-wise it still isn't the greatest FM but making the RF attenuator to work only for FM makes it usuable. Replacing the IF filters improved selectivity somewhat yet the radio retains (improves?) the crystal clear high notes. The output cap mod gives the '7600 some bass authority without the need for a boost.
The headphones are driven by the speaker amp (rated 380mW into 8ohms). The headphone output isn't rated but has *plenty* of drive.
