sony cans tend to sound great out of one source, and less so out of others. perhaps this is why opinions on sony are so polarized. in this thread i hope people can post their experiences matching their good sony cans with a good source that makes the cans sound just right (in the portable arena).

i have a couple:
sony mz-r70 md unit + sony d66 eggos: the eggos sound pretty good out of a pcdp, and the r50 md unit, but absolutly come alive with the r70.

sony d777 pcdp + sony v6: i know the d777 is rare these days, but right from the headphone out the v6 shines--solid bass that goes deep, good mids and treble, and a crisp sound. caveat: my v6 have foam over the drivers and beyer pads, fwiw.

in these two cases, the v6 + r70 sounds ok, same with the d66 + d777, but switch them and the difference is noticeable.

does anyone have any other combinations that stand out as excellent?
