The guys at audioasylum seem to think so, better than some NAD players even .... and for less than 130USD ... it dont look to bad, its supposed to have stellar video performance to boot.

I have a DVP-NS725P in my mom's system. Can't tell you about the audio performance though, since she just wanted it for video playback. However, I can tell you that it's dead silent in whatever it does....very very smooth transport. The picture quality as a DVD player is first rate (connect to my mom's big screen with RCA-branded 9' compoent cables purchased at Walmart).

I will be replacing the Sony with a Panasonic S25 DVD player for her since I found Best Buy was clearing out the Panasonic at $38.00 new-in-box.

I'm one of the AA posters who raved about the Sony DVP-NS725.

I recently replaced it with a Rotel RCD-1072.

I think the Sony is a great buy. Sonically, you get a lot of bang for your buck. But I don't think it can compete with higher-end dedicated CD players.
