Has anyone tried one of these out? not to be confused with the D-EJ1000 , this is one of Sony's newer offerings, introduced in the last few months. Nothing fancy on it, no mp3-cd playback, just a basic unit. Goes for $49 at Best Buy, Target, etc. They come in blue, black with green, and white with orange (those are obviously part of the "psyc" series).

I will be selling my iPod soon and will still need something to listen to my tunes on, and it's down to this or the Aiwa XP-EV515 ($59).

If anyone has used or heard either one of these, your opinions/comments would be most welcome. I plan to use it unamped with a pair of Senn HD25-1's for mostly rock music, but also some electronica, jazz, pop.

thanks!

I have this CD player. It sounds okay to me, though I don't expect a whole lot from a $50 discman (or any portable player, for that matter). It's basic and the controls are easy to operate. The remote also comes in handy from time to time. It's pretty slim for a player that runs on two AA batteries. I also use it with an HD25-1, and it's good enough for me.

I'mwondering if I should just pay $10 more and get the D-NE300 which sounded good with my HD280's when I had them. Plus it has the parametric EQ, which could be really handy with the HD25-1's, since they aren't as bass deficient as the HD280's were.

I may have to take a look at that Aiwa model too. I just want a decent sounding portable. I ended up a/b'ing my iPod with an old Sony PCDP and a Sony D-EJ721, and they all sounded pretty close without any EQ thrown into the mix...

i would get the dne300, you get mp3 playback and more features.

this one is designed pretty simple and effecience. very relaxing sounding so it should pair well with an aggresive or bright sounding headphone. 50hours of battery doesnt sound bad. good skip protection.

mine is on ebay right now.

Terrymx, did your player come with that case?

Terry-
I definitely like the looks of that player-- that dark metallic blue looks pretty classy for $50-- a little nicer looking than the blue or silver NE300. Have you actually a/b'ed the EJ100 with the NE300? If so, how would you say the sound quality is better on the NE300 with no EQ engaged? Or is it just that the NE300 has the potential to sound better due to the EQ flexibility?

never heard the dne300, sorry.

here's a rmaa test for the headphone out, using two different interconnects.

I'm not good at reading charts like this one--- what is it telling me?

Basically the frequency response plot above indicates that bass is slightly rolled off around 50-60Hz and below and treble is significantly rolled off 7Khz or above. I would probably use such information of few grains of salt at most since there are too many unknowns such the load impedance, interconnect, power source (battery, DC, ...).

well anyway the dej100 doesnt sound really good. using the er6i the sound coming out of the ihp120-256kbs mp3 sound better than out of the dej100-normal cd. the treble is a bit attenuated or lazy. not great details.

Bought a EJ100 for $3-noticed the sound mode was much more richer than on my other CD Walkman players (D-121 & D-EJ011).
