Hello all. Newbie here (been trawling for a while, though) and am in the market like a lot of you here. I got to test out a 618 at a local store (in Japan, small island) and liked the sound a lot, but have heard that the 728/828 is better. However, I was advised to skip the Japan version Sony's because one HAS to use Sonic Stage and that it has to be loaded on a Japanese operating system. Wondering if anyone can verify that.
Also, I have read a few threads that say the Toshiba T400 has pretty amazing quality. Here we have a T802 8Gb version available that has Wi-fi. Haven't had the chance to test it out since local stores don't sell it. Have also heard that it's pretty underpowered, so I don't even know what 'phones would be appropriate for it.
I'm thinking of using the Denon C700's, but am afraid the Toshiba is too underpowered to drive them or that it is too flat and doesn't have enough low end for these particular headphones. I am thinking the C700's because of their apparently balanced signature, but don't want a complete lack of bass response since I listen to basically every style of music out there. That and it has been suggested here to pair them with a "warm" player like the Sony. But that Sonic Stage issue...
Any suggestions would be helpful. Part of the reason I'm interested in these models partly due to availability and features per dollar. Not an Apple fan and not interested in D2. Video isn't a priority, but it's nice to have the option.
Thanks!
