Hello everyone :)

Im buying a new headphone tomorrow and wanted to check in if you think this is a good purchase for me

Im looking for bright headphones with great treble extension that sound clean in the mids too

Base is unimportant for me (something like the hd600 is plenty base)

I also would like it to have acceptable imaging but soundstage is also unimportant

Its build quality is also important because ill transport it in a bag a lot

And ill use it with the chord mojo

Do you think dt 1990 is good choice?
I can also pick the hd660s
Or the audioquest nighthawk

Thank you :)

I don't really have a good suggestion, but would caution against the Nighthawk if you are looking for something bright (they are quite the opposite, though they do have good treble extension if you can get past the weird mid/treble transition). Based on brief demos I would say the DT1990 (or even DT880) should be brighter than the HD600 (maybe too much depending on tolerance), and that the 660 might not be worthwhile it if you have a 600 already, unless you just want something easier to drive but of similar quality.

Thank you

I actually no longer have the hd600 since i only had it for a "tryout period"

I found it kind of good but it was the first higher quality headphone i tried and it was for reference something to compare other headphones to

As long as the chord mojo can drive the headphone it doesnt really matter how difficult they are to drive xP (and as far as i know it can drive all of the headphones im considering)

DT1990 excellent choice for your description. Outstanding clarity, outstanding build. Paris really nicely with Mojo to my ears. A classic combo. As the guy above says, Nightowl is the exact opposite - one of the muddiest headpones I've heard, no burning in or EQ'ing could fix. Comfortable like nothing else, though.

Having owned both of these (among others) for a while,
I think the 1990 is the better sounding headphone.
Clearer, more tonally balanced, more sonically cogent.

Both are well made, but again IMO the 1990's
appear more substantial and structurally sound.

Of course you can move away from those entirely
and take a listen to the Grado PS500's, for example.
While all three headphones are open backed, the
Grado is more dynamic especially in the high end.
I'm quite sure the bass would be sufficient for you
and the Chord can definitely drive them.

Overall, though, I'm thinking DT1990's.

Thank you for all the suggestions

The k701/702 are very cheap are they in the same category?
If they are they do seem like great alternatives :D
(even the akg k712 pro is still cheaper)

The sennheiser hd700 hifiman 560 400i and sundara are all not available sadly :/
Even thou the hd700 could technically fit in my budget

The aeon flow is sadly 2x my budget :frowning2:
(not sure if thats expensive for it or the normal but here on its price i could buy both the hd700 and the dt 1990 if they were both still available xD)

Thank you

I was very hesitant between the hd660s and the dt 1990 too since vocals are the most important part of any music for me and the rest is just there put emphasis on some part of that xP
And as far as i know 660s is pretty good with vocals

Hovewer most people who review them also agree with you that the dt 1990 is just the better option for the price

Sadly the grado ps500 is on ear and i much much rather prefer over ear
but thank you for the suggestion
