Ok, so I thought I'd share with the forum a magnificent band I found. The Soil and "Pimp" Sessions are a japanese outfit who take jazz well into the 21st century.
They describe their musical style as "death-jazz" and you can really what they mean, it's melodic standard-based jazz, with such energy that it throws you off your seat.
It is difficult to describe just how good this music is, without hearing it, but I have never played it to anybody and have them respond with anything less than, "wow!", even those who even hate jazz.
As their stand-out album I would reccomend "Suffocation", which has some of their live recordings", the best of which being "fuller love", and then move on to "Pimp Master" which has the masterful track "A wheel within a wheel".
I can't reccomend these guys highly enough... IF, that is IF, you can find them. I got mine from a friend who can operate Amazon.jp, by speaking a smattering of Japanese, but I can't find them ANYWHERE else on the web.
Check these guys out if you can find them!
