Hi, I'm reading around at the Insignia NS-B2111 bookshelf speakers, and I come across T-amps. I tried searching for it, but I guess it searches T and amps seperated here on these forums, and google doesn't seem to give the answer I am looking for.
So what exactly are T-amps?

Is it a brand or a company made part for amps or AV receivers? (like S/PDIF - Sony Philips- something)

What are some examples of T-amps, and where can I get them?

Okay cool. So how does the Sonic Impact 5065 Gen 2 T-Amp with Power Supply (this is the one you guys are talking about, right]) compare with a AV receiver, basic used ones.

I may be thinking of using the Insignia for a rear-projection TV; would the 1/8" jack affect sound quality, I think there is a RCA audio out to speaker plug on the back. Seems like the Sonic Impact is used mainly for computers or Ipods or MP3 players (please correct me if I'm wrong, what do you guys use it on?).

The Insignia 2.0 amp sounds pretty good as well, my friend has that paired with those FOTM speakers that I got all my friends to buy when they were ~$30. I used my SI amp with my Toshiba SD4000 cd player - good cheapie setup it cost me around $120 I think.

Did you know that the T amp is stereo? I don't know how you can compare a 2.0 amp to a 6.1 amp.

Edit: Also, even though no one has mentioned it, the headphone out on the SI v2 is horrible. If you need a headphone jack, stay away from it.

I was planning on using a 2.0 Bookshelf Speaker set-up? so the 6.1 AV Receiver is just out of the 2.0 T-amps league?

I don't really know much about AV receivers. I made my point because most people looking at AV receivers want the multiple channels.

One place I'm sure the Onkyo beats the SI v2 is in bass. the SI's bass, while not horrible, is not great. It's probably fine for bookshelf speakers since they don't have a lot of bass either. With an AV receiver, you have the option of adding a sub.

Where the SI v2 beats everything is foot print. It's tiny. If you have a small space, it's great.

Mainly Chinese, Taiwan production. One made in USA (Winsome Mouse) received very good review on 6moons.
Most are integrated, low power around 10 watts rms into 8ohms. Theuse various Tri-path chips.
The Little Dot is 75/channel into 8 ohms and the Winsome Mouse and PopPulse are around 30-35 watts/channel.
Range in price from around 140USD (Trends TA 10.1) - 400USD (Winsome
Mouse).
I'm thinking of getting 2 Trends, 1channel each for a bedroom system.
My speakers are 89dB and I don't want to be pushing one amp to drive them. The Trends also have the capacity to remove the volume control and use as power amp.

what about the older SI Super T-amps with the aluminum casing? I am quite happy with mine, and noticed a definite improvement in SQ over the original model. I noticed they now produce a new model with a cheaper price-tag and have discontinued the one I use. Does anyone know how these compare?
