Well... I was board so I did this, Should I have done this?? who knows.
But I hooked my Chromecast Audio (I found laying around) to a SMSL SA-S3 T-amp and connected the speaker outputs to a Russound TBL-75 (table top volume control.. but which also has headphone out. I am thus far pretty pleased the sound is very clean (to my ears) and there is plenty of power certainly for these DT770 Pro 80s .. Tried my Fostex TRP50mk3 as well and it can handle them also.
Mostly All this stuff was just sitting around doing nothing so I decided to give this a try. I actually like it more than I thought I would... I am pretty sure I prefer it to my (quite old desktop headphone amps, Creek OBH-11 and a FiiO E09K for whatever that is worth.) I think the Pioneer SA-710 has a similar amount of power and a somewhat warmer sound signature than this set up.
