I just bought these headphones about a month ago. The audio is incredibly muted and the headphones have a huge hiss overlaying everything. There is virtually no soundstage (everything comes straight at me). Any ideas what is causing this? If I play something with the volume at 100, i can barely hear anything.

Its coming from both ears really really really softly. This is after I disconnected the headphones from the cable and reattached them. Before that, I was only getting audio from the right side.

What are you running them from. If you can't fix it, you can always call Shure for a replacement, given that you purchased them from an authorized dealer.

Hmm - the electrical connection is pretty simple - it's either connected or it's not - you don't get low volume from a bad wire. It also seems unlikely that one driver is each ear would have failed. Is anything blocking the sound tubes? Remove the tips and make sure there's no wax/dirt blocking the tubes. If that's not it, then I'm stumped. Have you tried plugging them into a different source? Or tried plugging a different headphone into this source?
